I work in a very ritzy school, where the majority of the families can pay the $32,500 tuition for one or both children. So, I've seen the glitz and glory of having it all. But, it wasn't until today that I really saw how the other 3/4 lives . . . Mike and I were invited to watch the Red Sox game in an executive box at Fenway. It served as a wonderful anniversary gift for us today! Happy anniversary babe! Like complete outsiders, we made our way to the EMC level feeling like intruders getting ready to be cuffed. We passed by two people carrying the Red Sox trophies, draped in towels, (so that we, poor undeserving fans, could not catch a glimpse)as they walked past into another secret box ahead. But we weren't bitter - not when we opened the door to our box! This "box" was the size of our condo, with leather seats, couches, huge television and an open door to outside seating with the MOST spectacular view of the field I'd ever seen. As if it didn't get any better than that, we had a waitress coming in to refill the lobster, shrimp, clam chowder, chicken tenders, wings, hotdogs, sliders, chips and dip, popcorn, and icecream bar. And, the endless bar with any liquor imaginable and a stocked fridge of beer. Surely, a fan might think "well, this game is really meaningless since they've already clinched a spot in the playoffs", and maybe he's right, but who cares when you have the Pats game on a swivel tvs in front of your seat!! Field goals and home runs in one line of sight. It is unbelievable that some people really watch the Red Sox games this way in real life while the average Joe spends $30-50 to squeeze into a bleacher seat with an obstructed view. But hey, if you have the money to burn, I'd highly recommend it. Thanks for an unbelievable gift Ray!
As fun and exciting as it was, I talked to two moms with young kids the majority of the time as we exchanged stories between plays and blubbered on about how great our boys were. Mike and I had officially called Jackson a "runner" this morning, and are thinking of entering him in the next 5K. He is fast as a cheetah and we are exhausted. Luckily, he only has about 500 feet of real space to move around. After the game, I was equally excited to get back home to my little man. As always, he showed off his new tricks of actually walking backwards!? Again, Grammie had taught him countless things while we were away. He always seems to be a bit more intelligent after spending an afternoon with her.
What I learned today: It's nice to spend a day on the other side of the tracks and imagine what life would be like with that amount of glitz and glory. But, give me my little monkey, my sweetie husband, and our 800 square foot condo, because that's far more comfortable and makes life worth living for. Although that icecream bar was out of control . . .
