Year 1, Day 10

Today is a good day. My cousin John, is getting married and it is a beautiful morning here in North Carolina. I hear it's flooding rain back in Massachusetts, which is how my own wedding began. "They" always say that rain on your special day is good luck, but we all know that cliche was just started out of pity. Really, what else are you going to tell a bride that has chosen her location in order to take foilage pictures of her wedding party outside? Let's face it, it sucks to get married in the rain. But today, the sun is shining bright, they will be surrounded by 160 family and friends . . .

and a banjo playing the Allman Brother's "Sweet Melissa" as she (Melissa) walks down the isle. I'm sure they caught a lot of flack for that. When we make our way to the reception, and it is located in a Barn and not your tyical hall, I assume there will be some unfavorable judgement as well. This is what I say to my sweet cousin and his very lovely wife to be . . . screw it. This is your day. Come 5:00 today, when it is your very moment to exchange vows and start your new life together, enjoy every second. You have created this special day for the both of you, by joining things in your life that are meaningful and bring happiness to you as a couple. You deserve to have planned your wedding in a way that reflects the life you will lead together . . . to make it fun and inspiring. To you both, I say "Congratulations, and I wish you a beautiful marriage and a loving, lasting relationship that endures time."

What I leanred today: Though I don't have Jackson with me today, I wanted to pass along something for him to remember that I learned about life today. Not everyone will agree with your choices along the way, but you have to own them. Once you take a stand, stay firm and do what you believe is right in your heart. There isn't much that can go wrong when you believe in yourself.
