Year 1, Day 58

Today at daycare, Jackson entered his room bleary eyed and assuming he'd be met with breakfast, as is his normal routine. Imagine his surprise when he was face to face with a giant, blue, Cookie Monster staring him in the face and urging him to "Come on inside Jackson!". Still a little young to understand Halloween, I think the larger than life fuzzy blue monster was probably a bit out of his schema of things that can happen in a typical day. If I could only listen to what is going on in his head when he sees these new things and tries to make sense of them. In a effort to thwart off an attack from the cookie monster, he quickly attached himself to Daddy and wouldn't let go. Until of course, the idea of breakfast caused him to loosen his grip. Within a few moments, he trusted the blue giant enough to assume it was safe for breakfast. Following a few bites of food, and the realization that the monster was just his teacher Kathy, he was set for a funfilled day of costumes, candy, pizza, parades, and everything you always remembered about celebrating Halloween in school . . . before life because so politically correct that Halloween is now just a distant memory in most districts.

Jackson was able to Trick or Treat with his friends at daycare, and show off his own blue monster costume. I decided the cute spotted monster was a better choice than the monkey, because he kept tripping over his Monkey paws at home. Over the course of the week, I had him try on both costumes to get him use to them. Usually it would take a bit before he was calm enough to bring him over to a mirror, and then, he was fascinated. He realized that it was him, but seemed much in awe of how he turned blue and grew horns. Or, how he grew so much hair and a tail as a monkey.

Tonight, I am sending out a special message to Jackson's teacher, who was unable to be there for the celebration today. We miss you so much, and we are counting the days until you return. You'd be proud of Jack - he was extra good in the stroller as they made their way around the building trick or treating, and he blew kisses and smiled all the way. Of course, you know better than I that the sweet talking was all for cupcakes and the hope that he talk his way into scoring a cupcake or two. Anything to get sugar - he knows how to play the system! He's a smooth one that Jackson, and he did celebrate with a scrumptous cupcake in the end. Written on his daily report "Jackson loved trick or treating and thoroughly enjoyed his cupcake - Oh My!!" That probably means he enjoyed his, and Ella's, and Eric's...
That's my boy!
