Year 1, Day 232

What if "being a mom" didn't take up every ounce of energy?? What if you actually had hours left in the day to remember who you are and what makes you interesting?  Granted, we always hear "carve time out for yourself, and DON'T lose sight of yourself just because you are having a child." But, you do. You change. And, most of the time it's for the better. But every now and then, it's good to reach back in the mind, where the dust bunnies reside, and try to remember your dreams, and what makes you tick. What if you had all the time in the world, what would you do for yourself?

If I had countless hours before me, I would learn how to take a really great picture, capturing the sunlight perfectly, as a drop of dew balances on a leaf . . . just before rolling off the edge.

I would learn to sing, so I don't have to subject my son to tone deaf melodies, and he could aspire to vocal greatness.

If I had all the time in the world, I would spend it with animals, children, or elderly people.

I would form a support group to help children who have deployed parents in the military, and I would work with them to make a connection somehow - through writing, so that parents could capture those moments they miss.

I would spend time with rescued animals, getting to know them, and writing descriptions for their cages . . . so I'd know for certain they had a fair shot at being adopted and loved.

I would sit with elderly people and listen to their stories. I would write for them, and keep their legacy alive.

Today was just a reminder to me that we all have these wonderful gifts to share with the world, and it's our responsibility to make sure they aren't lost and taken for granted. We all have responsibility to our families and owe them priority, but we also can't lose sight of what makes us unique . . .
