Jackson's universal word for "please clarify" is "that??" The word "that" refers to anything he needs more information on. he is using this word quite regularly now, and this weekend was no exception. We were sitting at grammie's picnic table and Jackson laid his head on the wood - staring very closely, he asked "that??" and waited for the answer patiently. He had narrowed in on the patterns in the wood grain, and the circle where the screw was.
Shortly after, he was driving a truck on my mother's kitchen floor, when he stopped in his tracks and yelled - THAT??" It was a chip in the flooring - a slight imperfection that I had never noticed.
These instances reminded me of how he views the world so differently than adults. It's no wonder why children are exhausted by the end of the day and need such a longer time to recouperate. He notices everything and hears every peep within a five mile radius (like the train in the distance, and the puppies barking down the street). He is also so keenly aware of his surroundings - like laughing hysterically over the way that the grass tickles his feet, or saying "bless you" to a person who sneezes outside of his sight. The reminder to myself: every moment I plan with him, and every impromptu moment that we have together inevitably shapes his life in some way - there is no skipping a beat when it comes to a 2 year old (well, nearly 2).

This made me smile! Quinn's first questioning words were: "this?" and "that?" (Usually repeated in rapid succession -- "this this this???") Your story reminded me of so many good memories of learning with him. :) Have fun!!
