Year 1, Day 128

You choose your battles each day. What is really worth the nagging, and what do you want to instill as a value and an expectation? It's a difficult balance, each day, to maintain. There are things you have to let go of, and things you decide are too important to let go of.

Things that I pitch a fit about - my non-negotiables:

No whining. Crying without tears is strongly prohibited.
No pulling the hair out of the kitty - in large clumps.
No playing in or around the toilet.
No throwing food. period.

Things I am more apt to turn the other cheek over:

Fine. Play under the table and chairs and bang your head. That's what the "boo boo bunny" is for.
You want to run around naked after your bath? Run free my man.
How does that water taste that you just sucked out of your bath sponge?
Did you just discover that nasty piece of french toast on the floor? :)
How high is that chair you just toppled off?

Sometimes, it's the act of saying nothing at all that is the best deterrence. I've started to master the "mother's stare" used to prohibit unfavorable action. I will use it wisely. It is a gift.

And it's a very "valuable" gift. Mine still works now :)
