Year 1, Day 253

Jackson made leaps and bounds in maturity today.  He literally grew up before my eyes. I know that there are things he accomplished today, that he couldn't do yesterday. For instance, I saw him fighting to get his shirt over his head, eventually take it off, and bring it over to the laundry pile without being told.  I saw him sit down with me and actually interact with the trucks we had, rather than just parallel play beside me.  It was such a huge moment for me, because I've always felt like a great big loser mom for not knowing how to interact with a child that doesn't "play" WITH you. Playing with babies is difficult. I think I was pretty awful at it. I made myself believe that I could make up for my lack of play with smothering love, so hopefully that pans out in his favor.

I also saw Jackson sit and "read" for a long period of time, alone, without distraction. And, for the first time this mroning, instead of yelling or crying from the crib to come and get him out, he sang "MAMA!! MAMA!!" in the happiest little voice. He knew I was there, and that I would come and "save" him. It was such a nice feeling!
