Did I really say that in my last post? Did I actually say that the highlight of my day was that Jackson was sleeping in a big boy bed?? Well, that might have been the case from the time I had written my blog until 12:02am. It was at that moment early this morning, that our entire family took in our last snore. Jackson was awake, from 12:02am to 5:16am. You name it, we tried it. He wanted nothing to do with sleeping.
Because the owner of the house we were renting from told us that a crib would be present for him, I did not bring the pack and play. That was a huge mistake. The "crib" appeared sturdy enough to put a cabbage patch doll in, and that would be pushing it. The clap board and loose bolts were not going to stand up to a thirty pound toddler. Our only choice was a mattress on the floor.
That choice was equally horrible. We tried everything, from taking him in the bed with us, to the couch, to any place we could find. We rocked him, swayed him, rubbed his back, turned all the light off, turned all the lights on, cried, bargained, and disciplined. None of it worked. He was in a strange house, in a starge city, sleeping in a cavenous room, loaded with books and toys. He wanted to play, and was wide awake, not realizing why it was dark, why everyone was sleeping, and why he was not corralled. It was a nightmare, truly.
He finally crashed after not napping yesterday and 5:15 this morning, on the couch with me (watching choo choos). To save ourselves from a week of sleep deprivation and a week of complete discombobulation for him, we drove back to Natick this morning (from the Cape) and picked up the Pack and Play. Hopefully that works tonight. For now, we are in Natick to nap. Jackson is "on the verge of sleeping" while I write this, and I am headed off to try and catch a few winks before we hit the road again this evening.
Wish us luck. We may need it.

It is very rare when I pull out this southern saying, but I think this post gives me cause to say it. BLESS YOUR HEARTS! I will be thinking about you all tonight before bed, praying you have a more pleasant rest of your vacation filled with blissful sleep!
Hope you had a better night last night. I'll look for that inflatable bed thing if the pack n play doesn't work.
