Year 1, Day 293

Thank you for "blessing our hearts" because the Pack and Play worked like a dream last night and for his nap today.  He hasn't figured out that he could literally boost himself over the side or push it over and get out, so for now, we are safe. Once he falls asleep, we are golden.

The actual act of getting him to that point is a different story.  He has learned to pull out all the tricks . . . "Mommy, dropped Patsy!!" (when he actually threw Patsy over the crib to his death) and then he hopes I will come in and rescue him.  Next try: "DON'T LIKE!!" means get me out of here.  He screams "OPEN!! ALL DONE" to mean open the door or I'm going to barge it down with the help of giraffe and his cohorts.

But, we are getting by . . . it has been a rough go. It seems like once we landed on the Cape, EVERYTHING is "NO!!!" and doing the easiest of tasks that used to take a moment are now taking chunks of the day.  I'm sure we will get ourselves into a rhythm though . . . I am hopeful. Maybe he'll even like the beach by Friday.  He is enjoying the sand, but the water is another story . . . surprising, but not. I traumatized him on on the first day at the beach by letting him run into the surf.  When he fell on his ass in the water, he just flipped out . . . it's going to take awhile. Didn't I learn my lesson from letting him frolick in the snow? I recall that I ruined his winter by putting him in a snow bank. He tripped and fell face first in the fluffy snow. It took a season to get over that. I think I should research a parenting class tonight.

Yay for the Pak N Play !! And you don't need a parenting class. You and Mike are GREAT parents.
